This new two building complex provides the University of Virginia’s Medical School with a facility that supports Biomedical Engineering, Medical Sciences and Cancer Research. This new building (built in two phases) relieves a shortfall of graduate level research space and consolidates the Biomedical Engineering research activities. Each of the four floors contains BSL2 wet research labs as well as a BSL3 laboratory suite. In addition to research space, this building will house classrooms and conference areas as well as two vivaria (total 30,000 square feet) for both conventional and transgenic rodents. There is also a small number of teaching labs in the 338,000-square-foot building.
