This new multi-disciplinary science building provided the University of Massachusetts with its first new academic building on the Boston campus in nearly four decades. The 229,450-square-foot Integrated Sciences Complex features research lab and support space for biology, chemistry, environmental sciences, physics, and psychology; undergraduate biology teaching labs; an interdisciplinary undergraduate sandbox teaching lab; and a new research center for personalized cancer therapy.
Multiple departments are organized for an integrated multidisciplinary research and learning experience by distributing the science department’s program requirements throughout the five floors of the building. Options for biology and chemistry research and instructional labs were developed with representatives from both departments. The synthetic chemistry labs were designed with heavy fume hood requirements. A robust instrument core is also available to the researchers.
