University of Connecticut Cell and Genome Sciences Institute

Farmington, CT

Project Description

This award-winning renovation of a 1970s-era pharmaceutical research building provided the University of Connecticut with a new home for the Cell and Genome Sciences Institute. Phased renovations for the LEED Gold certified building, which houses UConn Stem Cell Institute, the R.D. Berlin Center for Cell Analysis and Modeling, and the Department of Genetics and Developmental Biology, included labs for genetics and developmental biology, stem cell research, computational modeling (cell analysis and modeling) and animal studies. The lab planning team fit a variety of program elements into the complex, existing floor plan of the 118,000-square-foot building, with a strong emphasis on flexible labs with natural light. Existing metal casework in research labs were extensively upgraded to modern research and safety standards.
