The new U.S. Embassy Compound in Vientiane, Laos includes an 8,200-square-meter chancery office building, a two-story parking structure, a utility services building, three compound access control facilities, physical and technical perimeter security, and landscaping.
The architecture of all buildings, especially the chancery, symbolically reflects the local architectural heritage while taking into account the fluctuating weather conditions in Southeast Asia. Contemporary “green” materials and technologies were employed to adhere to the Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) design excellence standards.
Page partnered with B.L. Harbert International, LLC on the design-build project which was awarded based on a very aggressive schedule that includes milestones for congressional and tenant reviews and approvals. The design integrates security measures that include severe blast resistance, force protection, chemical and biological protection measures and emergency and power generation systems.
The project achieved LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, in accordance with OBO requirements.
