Page was a design-build partner with B.L. Harbert International on this new diplomatic mission compound. The 8.25 acre project was developed in the high-end residential neighborhood of Soussi in Rabat. The 14,383-square-meter building houses the main embassy offices, U.S. Marine residences, maintenance shops and showers, and the compound utility building.
The environment and the area restrictions of the site shaped a design where all of the functions are housed in one large building in a closed courtyard. It features large glazed views of the courtyard and landscape features such as the main water fountain and garden.
Due to the height restrictions for the neighborhood and the site topography, the building sits partially below grade, creating a low profile that fits comfortably with the scale of its neighbors without sacrificing program. Other buildings on the compound include underground visitor parking and controlled access facility buildings.
The project, designed by SmithGroupJJR, achieved LEED Silver certification in accordance with OBO requirements.
