Page recently completed an interior renovation of a 16,200-square-foot single-level space at 1615 M Street. It serves as Page’s Washington DC regional office and the headquarters of Page Southerland Page, Inc.
The office is carefully designed to reinforce Page’s status as a leading multidisciplinary architecture, engineering, interiors and consulting firm. It provides potential clients and future employees with a sense of the culture and tradition at Page.
The arrival experience begins as the elevator doors open. The bright, modern lobby sets the tone of simple elegance for the office. The main reception flows easily from seating and open lounge collaboration space to conference rooms that suit every size and A/V need, as well as a spacious café that was designed for employee enjoyment and catered events.
The entire space is finished in a very simple pallet of neutral white, walls and ceilings with accents of seven bright colors. Carrera marble floors leading from the elevators transition to cork planks in the main reception area, then to dark grey carpet tiles throughout the two studios.
Glass walls with maple doors extend views from the studios into perimeter offices. The furniture integrates the neutral office pallet with its white surfaces, grey wood storage elements and vibrant pops of colors on guest seating cushions.
The two design studios include a mix of private offices, open workspace, meeting and video conference rooms, project storage, sample libraries, and plenty of communal layout space. Future flexibility of the space was a driving design factor in the planning of the office.
A strategic approach to the open office planning employed a benching workspace solution integrating storage elements into a simple, inherently collaborative structure – the table, that suggest boundaries without blocking visual access. Technology, acoustics and visual access to daylight also were very carefully considered for the open studios.
The nine-story building is part of the Sumner Square complex built in 1985 by Boston Properties. This Class A complex is situated in one of the main office and retail corridors of the city, within a block of multiple major hotels, retail and Metrorail stops.
