In response to an Executive Order in 2002 requiring all Federal Agencies to incorporate sustainable design into major renovations, NASA established the goal for all of their facilities at Johnson Space Center to achieve LEED™certification. Page has provided third party commissioning for more than a decade to several projects at NASA’s 2000 acre Texas-based complex, Johnson Space Center, the home of the Mission Control Center for the nation’s space program. As the Commissioning Authority, Page has provided both Fundamental and Enhanced Commissioning which begins in the pre-design phase and continues through the design, construction, and occupancy/operations phases. In support of this process, the Page Commissioning team produces project deliverables including, Review of the Owner’s Project Requirements and Basis of Design, Review of Design Development, and Review of Construction Documents and Contractor Submittals relevant to development of commissioning specifications.
Projects for which third party commissioning has been provided include NASA’s 12,000 sq-ft Astronaut Quarantine Facility, the first LEED™ certified building at Johnson Space Center designed and constructed as a germ and pathogen-free environment to house astronauts and isolate them from airborne illnesses prior to and following manned space missions. The Space Center’s 17,000-sq-ft Public Affairs Facility, the Maintenance Building for the multi-use recreation and conference facility at Gilruth Center, and the three-story, 83,000-sq-ft LEED Office Facility for Transition (or LOFT), housing more than 500 NASA employees, and the first building at JSC to achieve LEED Platinum certification. As NASA continues to reach for new heights to ensure the United States will remain the world’s leader in space exploration and scientific discovery for years to come, Page is providing total building commissioning for Crew Exploration Vehicle Avionics and Integration Lab at NASA Johnson Space Center (CAIL).
Recognizing the opportunity to improve the environmental performance of buildings, Page provided third-party Existing Building commissioning, as part of LEED to achieve the Energy & Atmosphere credits for the Astronaut Office Facility, Building 4 South. The Investigation and Analysis Phase included the development of a Retro-Commissioning Plan, and the completion of an Investigation Report with recommended operational improvements.
