The design of this cinema creates an anchor for dining, entertainment and pedestrian activity within Mueller’s new Town Center District. Prominently located at the intersection of Aldrich and McBee Streets, it has an important presence in the district. The cinema is situated at the termination of Mueller’s axial Airport Blvd entry, and is set back to allow the Aldrich Street Paseo to continue with a generous pedestrian zone and double allee of trees.
As the primary function of the cinema is located on the second level, grand stairs are expressed in the façade to draw visitors through the cinema lobby and upstairs to the level of the theaters and outdoor terrace. The 60,000 square foot building is equally divided between a six-screen movie theater on the second level, and ground-floor dedicated spaces that can accommodate ten to twelve commercial retail shops and hospitality venues such as restaurants alongside the movie theater’s bar and lobby.
Capitalizing on the opportunity for views over Mueller’s Lake Park to the downtown Austin skyline, the cinema features a significant second floor wraparound terrace at its southwest corner, providing optimal views of sunsets. It is an amenity for residents of the Mueller 700-acre Mueller mixed-use live/work/play development in east-central Austin as well as a draw for visitors to Aldrich Street, the branded community town center that offers a mix of local and national restaurants, shops and retailers.
