Montgomery College Bioscience Education Center – Germantown Campus
Germantown, MD
Project Description
Page/SST Planners provided lab planning services for the 140,000-square-foot Bioscience Education Center at the Montgomery College Germantown campus, located on Maryland’s I-270 technology corridor. The design promotes student-faculty interaction and provides multidisciplinary team learning areas along with demonstration and recitation spaces with the display of science and technology throughout the building.
This STEM building houses biology, chemistry and biotechnology labs. The mathematics department is undergoing renovation in an adjoining building on the quad. The Biotech program will educate students in proper bio-manufacturing processes including gown-in, sample prep and a robotics lab. Each floor contains science labs paired with prep and recitation rooms, classrooms, and faculty offices.
U.S. Senator Ben Cardin visited the campus to have an open discussion with students about the impact of rising college tuition costs. He also toured the recently opened bioscience lab. "I know that in the life sciences and the cybersecurity areas, Montgomery College is going to continue to excel, and one of the reasons is because of the investment here at Montgomery College," Senator Cardin said.
The video of the project may be viewed below, with Senator Cardin's tour of the facility starting at 1:10.
This building, designed by The Lukmire Partnership with Mitchell Giurgola, has achieved LEED Gold certification and promotes energy conservation through solar, wind and light harvesting.
