Page was retained by Hewlett-Packard (HP) to develop their Modular Data Center Prototype Design for a consolidation project that reduced the company’s existing 86 data centers worldwide into six data center sites: two in Austin, two in Houston and two in Atlanta. The initial charge was to develop a modular prototype facility that could be constructed in various sizes up to 200,000 square feet of raised floor space with full flexibility to accommodate future power and air handling modifications to support changes in future technologies. Page implemented the design of the two Austin sites, I and II.
Hewlett-Packard Data Center Site I: Page was awarded the A/E Design Contract for the first of HP’s corporate consolidation Data Centers. The project entailed the conversion of an existing semiconductor manufacturing facility into a 350,000-square-foot stand-alone data center with approximately 125,000 square feet of raised floor and an additional 225,000 square feet of support, warehouse and office space. The project includes two floors of raised floor “white space”, one approximately 65,000 square feet and the other 60,000 square feet.
Hewlett-Packard Data Center Site II: Page was also selected to provide A/E design for the first standalone facility at HP’s Austin Campus. The initial 180,000-square-foot phase of the project was designed as a “bay-and-chase” configuration to include two cells of “white space” for a total of 50,000 square feet of raised floor area. The facility is designed to allow ease of future expansion up to 200,000 square feet of white space in a two-level configuration adjacent to the central support core for a total of 600,000 gross square feet.
After completion of the Data Centers, Page was engaged to design and manager container projects at both sites. Both installations included 1MW HP Ecopod installations.
