Dyal Branding & Graphics, A Page Company, was engaged to design and implement a formal entrance to The University of Texas at Austin campus at the foot of University Avenue, where it intersects Martin Luther King Boulevard. Paul Cret’s 1933 University of Texas Master Plan extended malls and vistas in the four cardinal directions from the then new University Hall. The south vista, which defines University Avenue, is in direct alignment with the Texas Capitol Building. University Avenue serves as a transitory space between the university campus and the Austin city fabric.
The design team first analyzed existing conditions, including landscape, traffic patterns, and existing master plans. In addition to marking the gateway to the campus, the project also includes a small plaza which has become a prime photo and viewing spot for students, faculty and visitors.
