Biography

Todd Ray, FAIA, is an award-winning designer of commercial, residential, institutional and academic projects. Throughout his career, Todd’s focus on the human experience of architecture has produced buildings and spaces that are beautiful, high performing, innovative and, most of all, projects that have a long-term positive impact on people and communities. His impressive portfolio of award-winning work—from the Mundo Verde Bilingual Public Charter School to the STM Laboratory Renovation and Expansion at Gallaudet University—showcases the symbiotic relationship between forward-thinking design, public interest architecture and environmental sustainability.

Other projects express Todd’s investment in architecture in the public realm or for the public interest. His pavilions at the Washington DC Union Station Bus Terminal are a modern foil to the Beaux Arts majesty of the main train station. Through bold color, whimsical shapes and inserted objects, the design transforms a forlorn pass-through space into an inviting destination in its own right. A 2018 AIA Committee on the Environment Top Ten award winner, his Mundo Verde project transformed a derelict urban school site into a model of sustainable design and a teaching tool for environmental stewardship.
