Jon Sylvie has developed a prestigious résumé of experience in project and program management for military healthcare and research facilities, including oversight of more than $2.3 billion in design and construction of medical facilities during his service as Program Manager for the U.S. Army Surgeon General. Today, he applies this knowledge to projects at Page, where he is responsible for project management of federal, civic, education, and healthcare projects, as well as business development in those market sectors.
Jon was introduced to the firm when it was known as PageSoutherlandPage and had begun preparations to submit a proposal to design a replacement hospital at Fort Hood in Texas. Serving in his role as Program Manager for the project, he was impressed with Page’s commitment to the effort, especially with how meticulously the firm’s architects addressed the project requirements.
He remembers the firm’s concept for the facility as being extraordinary. “It was an amazing design,” he recalls. “They provided everything we wanted and more, from an owner’s perspective.” While the design/build team that Page was a member of was not ultimately awarded the project, he says, “It cemented in my mind that this was a top tier firm that I would be interested in joining in the future.”
In 2012, Jon did just that. Today he works as a Principal in the Austin office. He has made significant contributions to Page projects, including the Texas Facilities Commission Capitol Area Master Plan, The University of Texas Dell Medical School, and numerous military projects.
Jon’s exemplary performance in the military earned him the designation of Distinguished Member of the Army Medical Department. He was also awarded the Order of Military Medical Merit for demonstrating an outstanding degree of professional competence and having made a sustained contribution to the betterment of Army medicine. Jon was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for service as Chief of Health Facilities for Multinational Forces-Iraq while stationed in Baghdad from 2005 to 2006. Upon retiring from the Army in 2012, Jon was honored with the Legion of Merit in acknowledgment of exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services over the course of his career.
Jon received undergraduate degrees in Industrial Management and Information Systems from Carnegie Mellon University. He later earned an MBA from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin in Construction Engineering and Project Management.
In addition, he has authored refereed journal articles and participated in numerous conference presentations on various aspects of military healthcare facilities. Jon has also taught undergraduate and graduate-level courses at Trinity University in San Antonio, both in the Department of Business Administration and the Department of Health Care Administration.
Outside his professional duties, Jon and his family raise registered Texas Longhorn cattle at Copper Creek Ranch in Llano County, which is in the heart of the famed Texas Hill Country.
