Freddy Padilla has developed significant experience as an engineer designing infrastructure for data centers, and successfully earned his Uptime Tier Designers accreditation in 2013. In the past few years, he has been responsible for leading Page teams on the electrical design of more than 12 data centers totaling over $1B in construction costs. Freddy’s portfolio also includes a variety of engineering services for multiple, successful projects for the industrial, municipal, commercial, government, educational and healthcare sectors.
Ironically, Freddy recalls asking himself on his first day of work at the firm how he was going to fit in with all the different personalities and styles he was meeting. He quickly came to realize it was the 'Page way' and that “without realizing it, I with my very unique personality was not only fitting in, I was contributing to this Page gamma of styles with my own”.
Over the years Freddy has worked with Page, he has been consistently reminded of the strong commitment the firm’s employees have toward their projects. “It is very impressive the commitment we always get from our electrical team and how we collaborate together to achieve a quality job that many other companies dream to have,” he says. “We have worked in very big projects with limited timeframes and managed to achieve excellent quality thanks to our team collaboration and commitment. I would say this is one of our biggest strengths.”
Freddy is in a position to speak authoritatively on the topic, as he has overseen procurement and construction management for capital projects for the pharmaceutical sector, including facility assessments, startup and commissioning, contract management, maintenance and facility upgrades. As the supervisor of 250 employees and over 100 contractors, he managed the startup and commissioning of an $800M facility. He has also managed the design of electrical, distribution, illumination, communication and fire alarm systems for data centers, commercial, housing and industrial applications.
Freddy’s favorite project for the firm has been the HCA Data Center because, he says, “We got to implement a new technology allowing us to also implement an atypical white space 415V distribution without the use of Power Distribution Units. To implement this new distribution scheme, it was essential to convince the industry to create and implement a new product to support our new innovative design. The fact that a firm like Page is driving the industry to make changes to minimize components, improve energy and reduce cost is what makes it all worth it.”
Among his other recent projects are financial data centers. One involved the retrofit of a two-story, 450,000-square-foot data center with 100,000 square feet of raised floor space in Plano, Texas. Another was the construction of a $190M, Tier IV+ sync site incorporating 200,000 square feet with 54,000 of raised floor white space in Kansas City, Missouri.
Freddy has also overseen several projects for Dell Data Centers, including review of energy efficiency of multiple existing data centers and developing strategies for reducing overall energy consumption and cost at multiple locations. Additionally, a project for Lilly Humalog involved start-up support for new bulk production facilities, management of a $14M maintenance and new construction project with more than 100 contracts and 250 employees, and working with the client’s finance department to capitalize over $10M for the plant.
Outside the office, Freddy’s focus is on his family. He is very involved with his children’s activities, volunteering at school for the Watch Dog program, and other family-related events.
Freddy earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus. He is registered to practice engineering in ten states and Puerto Rico.
