As a Project Architect within the Interiors group, Elizabeth Chen really enjoys getting into the technical details of how a design idea becomes a built project. “I find delight in the details,” she says. However, she didn't always know that architecture would be her calling.
“I seem to recall that I first wanted to be a dancer, but that was my childhood dream. When I was a little older, I wanted to be a physicist, then a marine biologist, then a bio-medical mechanical engineer so I could design prosthetic devices, and then finally a medical illustrator. My family background consists of an even mix of artists and scientists/mathematicians so I grew up with interests in both areas. It took some soul searching, some architectural classes, and some work experience in an architectural office to convince myself that I had indeed found a path that I would want to pursue for the rest of my career."
As a self-professed perpetual learner, Elizabeth was drawn to Page’s commitment to continuing education and support of employee professional development. “I've always felt supported in my varied interests; from strategic utilization of new construction processes, incorporation of innovative products, or promoting industry initiatives.”
Elizabeth is a tinkerer. She enjoys problem solving and creating things with her hands. Whether cooking, crafting, or troubleshooting problems at the construction site, the creative problem solving process is remarkably similar despite the medium. In fact, she'll quote MacGyver to you, "Any problem can be solved with a little ingenuity."
Elizabeth holds a Bachelor of Art in Biology and Studio Arts from Rice University and a Masters of Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin. She is a licensed architect in Texas and a LEED AP BD+C professional.
