Asa knew when he was a kid that he wanted to be an architect. One of his lasting memories of childhood is the day he told his sixth-grade class he wanted to be an architect. As he recalls it, he was putting a stake in the sand. “Even as a pre-teen, I wanted to be a person with integrity,” he says. “I set the goal for myself and worked hard to accomplish it.” Twelve years later, when Asa graduated with a Master of Architecture at Texas Tech University, he called his sixth grade teacher to tell her he finally realized his dream.
When it comes to work Asa enjoys complicated projects. He notes a multiple package, expansion and renovation of a semi-conductor facility as his favorite project to date at Page. “One of the crucial requirements on all of our projects is coordination,” he explains. “But this project was a great example of how collaboration determines success. It was defined by quick turnaround times for each package, and our team worked closely with every discipline involved in order to produce a high-quality product in a short period of time. It was engaging and exciting to be a part of the team.”
The collaborative environment of his work and his commitment to helping clients visualize their ideas are both rewarding for Asa.
Outside of the office, he enjoys traveling and spending time outdoors. As a student, he spent six weeks in Seoul, South Korea as part of a very intensive studio. During the trip Asa balanced his work, which was subsequently published in the South Korean design journal Architecture and Culture, with taking in as much of the city as possible. “I walked an average of 11 miles a day in Seoul,” he says. “I went on multiple hikes through some of the most beautiful national parks in the city. As part of the trip, our studio group also spent a week in Tokyo. It was a great experience to see some of the national gardens and to watch the sunset at The Roppongi Hills Mori Tower.”
Asa says he takes every opportunity he can to travel and explore new cities and landscapes. But when he isn’t away, Austin’s variety of outdoor activities make it a good place to call home.
