Art Chavez sees possibilities. Whether he is meeting new people, visiting countries or touring prospective project sites he can visualize futures for them all. This is one of the skills that helped elevate Art from design architect to the youngest managing principal in Page’s 100-plus year history.
After decades of global project work, Art is currently training his focus on expanding Page’s presence in Latin America. He recently spearheaded the opening of an office in Mexico City, formalizing the firm’s long-standing history there.
In Houston, which he calls home, Art has played a significant role in the revitalization of the city’s center, including the renovation of the historic Rice Hotel and influenced the city’s development through other projects. As chairman of the East End Foundation, Art has advanced preservation and enhanced appreciation for this aspect of Houston’s cultural heritage. The area was designated a Cultural District by the Texas Commission on the Arts under his leadership.
Currently, he serves on the Board of American Leadership Forum – Gulf Coast Chapter and is an active supporter of the Greater Houston Partnership. As a native of one of the most diverse cities in the US, Art is determined that Page employees too should perceive the firm as diverse and inclusive.
He is an alumnus of the University of Houston Gerald Hines College of Architecture and Design and a member of the Architecture Alumni Hall of Fame. Art established an endowment to fund study abroad programs for Hines College students. He credits living in another country while young with having significant influence on the man he became and encourages students to take advantage of similar opportunities.
