Andrew Sullivan ASLA

Associate Principal / Landscape Architecture Director

Biography

Associate Principal and Director of Landscape Architecture Andrew Sullivan, ASLA, has an extensive portfolio that ranges from urban design and master planning, to the design and construction of private gardens, public parks, institutional and private campuses and civic spaces.

A longtime Bay Area resident, Andrew’s appreciation of design began early. He credits his childhood in the shadow of the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio in Oak Park, Illinois and his stint living in Venezuela as defining factors in his discovery of the power of landscape—its drama and inspiration. He cites Stern Grove, an amphitheater in a large San Francisco park, as one of his favorite projects. Andrew notes the design is a counterpoint to the rugged topography and dense forest, and on quieter days, when thousands of concerts-goers are not filling the theater’s natural stone benches, visitors enjoy the smell of the eucalyptus grove.

Andrew describes his work style as committed, creative and collaborative. For him, well-managed collaborative processes deliver stronger and richer projects. He finds that inspiration and solutions often come from the most unlikely sources. Landscape architecture allows Andrew to explore people’s relationship with nature and to build connections to places where we live, work and play. He really enjoys the moment when a project fence comes down and people are free to experience the place.
