Andrew has experience working with residential, academic, commercial, civic and government building types throughout his career. Some of his most recent work includes the restoration, historical preservation and adaptive reuse of several significant historical buildings in Houston. “In a time when so many older buildings in Houston have suffered the wrath of the wrecking ball, I am glad to have had a hand in saving some of them,” Andrew said.
He was born and raised in Houston as the youngest of seven children. His passion for architecture began as a child after attending neighborhood field trips to the downtown library and marveling at the numerous buildings. Being a son of an engineer and a sibling to two engineer brothers, he enrolled into UH College of Engineering. His interest in building and design soon led him to enter the College of Architecture after one year.
He spent the summer as an undergraduate visiting the Gothic Cathedrals and museums of Europe during his Normandy Studies Program. It also gave him the opportunity to restore century plus old fence and gates of a historic house on the Normandy Coast of France.
Andrew worked for a small firm throughout school, working his way from the bottom up until 2007. “Since it was a small firm, I wore many hats and learned all aspects of the design, document and construction phases of architecture. This gave me a well-rounded education in both the artistic and technical aspects of the profession.”
When Andrew isn’t busy designing buildings, you can find him fishing in Galveston. “I love to fish and have fished the Galveston Bay System since childhood. I’ve since been in every bay from the Lowe Laguna Madre to Calcasieu Lake in Louisiana, developing a love for nature and the outdoors.”
He has volunteered for both The Galveston Bay Foundation’s sea grass planting/marsh restoration program and the TP&WD’s program for removal of derelict (abandoned) crab traps from Texas bays in an effort to support and preserve natural resources and wildlife.
