Alexander Goldberg is an architect, designer, musician, sailor, and self-taught linguist. He is passionate about design, buildings, streets, cities, language, culture, art, and history, and began his career in architecture with the office of Rahul Mehrotra in Mumbai, India, working on residences and urban improvement projects before returning to Dallas, where he worked on urban mid- and high-rise mixed-use and multifamily projects.
Raised in a family of artists, he was exposed early to innovative thinking through his mother and father Diana & Brad Goldberg, whom together design and build large works of art that encompass both stone sculpture and landscape/environmental design and placemaking, largely in urban public, but also rural, private, and civic spaces.
Prior to his work in architecture, Alex worked as a stone craftsman on projects with Campolonghi Italia, in Massa-Carrara, Italy, including work on the Opera House in Oslo and the Museum of Islamic Art in Qatar, among others.
He is multilingual, speaking English and Italian fluently, Arabic and Spanish well, and has varying strengths in others such as Hindi/Urdu, French, Farsi and modern Greek. He believes language is a powerful means for connecting people, for understanding and tolerance of diversity, and for positive change in the world.
Desegregation and the dismantling of existing ethnic, gender, wealth, and other forms of discrimination are important, and he is interested in the border areas between such population disparities and how our physical environment can help to surmount these cultural hurdles.
Alex is also interested in the history and future of detail, imagery, form, and meaning in the arts and architecture, and particularly how they embody and reflect culture and identity.
