Wood Veneer Design is in the Details

The natural beauty of wood can elicit an image of warmth and elegance or strength and rusticity to interior spaces. Wood veneer is featured in accent walls, custom casework, ceilings and other architectural features. In addition to the selection from a variety of sustainable species that is available, Page designers can render this natural material in many ways to create unique solutions. We can implement combinations of wood grain pattern and direction, use natural or custom stains and finishes, as well as integrate it with other materials as glass, natural stone and metals. But our design efforts don't ever stop there.

During the construction phase, Page designers pay close attention to the details of the contractors' work through the review of their shop drawings and regular visits to the site to observe progress. Recently, our design team for a major hospital project took a trip to Canada together with the general contractor to visit the architectural woodwork company. The team's mission -- to review the hundreds of flitches of two types of wood veneer species that was procured for the project; understand the proposed layout by which the millworker will hang the veneer in various areas of the hospital's public spaces; and, finalize the finishes to be applied.

Five straight hours were spent to go over drawings to understand the layout of the veneer leaves. The review of the wood finish was tricky as we had to adjust the stain color such that it would match our control sample knowing that exposure to UV rays will eventually darken the finish. Our construction partners were very collaborative in their efforts to comply with our design intent. This resulted in a successful and productive work session. They say design is in the details. But it is also in the hands of a team that shares a common vision. The production of the wood paneling and casework turned out as planned and we are very pleased with the finished product.

Page has more than 150 wood veneer options in its design library, collected from sources all over the world. The firm has utilized wood veneer in numerous award-winning projects ranging from Houston Methodist West Hospital to the offices of Graves Dougherty Hearon & Moody, the US Courthouse in Alpine, The University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley Performing Arts Complex and 2902 at the W Residences among others.
