UT picks architect for $102M downtown office building

Page has been selected to design a new, energy-efficient University of Texas headquarters located in downtown Austin. According to the Austin Business Journal, the firm was selected from 12 proposals for the $102.4 million project.

The new 258,000 square foot UT System headquarters building will be located on Seventh Street between Colorado and Lavaca Streets. It will consolidate operations that are currently spread amongst five aging buildings. Once completed, the high-efficiency downtown headquarters are expected to save the university between $2 million and $8 million per year because of reduced maintenance costs, energy savings and revenue generated from leasing space in three of the buildings currently used for UT Systems operations.

The finished building will be nine stories including six levels of parking. Page has completed projects for UT in Austin and elsewhere, including a student apartment building located at 2400 Nueces Street, and an engineering research building for the University of Texas at Arlington.
