UH TDECU Stadium Wins HBJ Landmark Award

The new 40,000-seat TDECU stadium at the University of Houston, which opened on August 29, 2014, has transformed the school’s athletics profile and has enhanced the image of the university as a progressive, 21st century institution. The Houston Business Journal recognized the impact the stadium has made on the campus and the larger community by awarding the project with the 2015 Landmark Award for Public Assembly. Representatives from Page, DLR Group and the University of Houston accepted the award at the celebration on April 9.

In addition to Cougar football, the stadium was planned to host other community events such as high school football, concerts, performing arts events and graduation ceremonies, including the upcoming UH graduation at which Matthew McConaughey will deliver thekeynote address. 

Designed by Page and DLR Group, the stadium focuses on simple pleasures that celebrate the game—great views of the field from all seats and from most of the concourse, economical materials nicely detailed, and a bright, festive character that reinforces the spirit of football.  Its fresh and distinctive look and feel emphasize the lively, colorful nature of a college football event on the exterior and a strong sense of community and shared experience in the light-filled concourses and other public spaces on the inside.
