UH Ranked Among Top 50 University Recreation Centers

The University of Houston Campus Recreation and Wellness Center has been ranked among the Top 50 university recreation centers in the US by College Consensus. They noted that universities are finding increasingly creative and expensive means of attracting would-be students, and state-of-the-art recreation centers are at the top of that wish list.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, there were nearly 2,300 public and private four-year universities in the US in 2015, many of which have recreation centers. Page is very proud that its project, which started the design phase more than a decade ago, is still a nationally top-ranked facility despite the continued, intense competition.

The list was compiled utilizing various data sets to determine which facilities go above and beyond students' expectations. College Consensus Managing Editor Carrie Sealey explained, "The stress of college can have a long-term negative impact on student health, but access to a top-notch campus recreation center doesn't just offer an escape from college stress—it offers a cure for the illness of stress."

The University of Houston was ranked #38 with three basketball courts, two high-school sized courts, an indoor soccer field, a 53 foot climbing wall, and a 70 meter competition lap pool – and that’s just the beginning. UH also has one of the most impressive leisure pools out there, a 31,000 square foot facility with three lap pools, two water slides, a 20-person hot tub, and a lovely waterfall with underwater seating. Outdoor fitness includes intramural fields and functional fitness units around the outdoor track for training.
