The Hospital Steve Jobs Would Have Built

"If the Apple Store opened a hospital it would look like the Walnut Hill Medical Center in Dallas," according to Carmine Gallo, author of the book, The Apple Experience: Secrets to Building Insanely Great Customer Loyalty. Can a healthcare facility employ the same techniques that Apple has used to reinvent the retail experience in order to transform patient and staff experiences? Walnut Hill Medical Center in Dallas thinks so - and so does Gallo.

In an article he wrote recently for Forbes, “The Hospital Steve Jobs Would Have Built,” Gallo notes that Walnut Hill, designed by Page, took several lessons from the Steve Jobs "playbook," including looking outside of your industry for inspiration, leveraging mobile technologies and designing spaces to make people feel better. Other Jobs philosophies that Walnut Hill founders took to heart when planning the new facility include:

  • Start with the right vision.
  • Hire people with an aptitude for service.
  • Greet customers with a warm welcome.
  • Train every employee to deliver steps of service every time.
