Sustainability of UCCS Village at Alpine Valley Showcased
Page staff members Mackenzie Manson and Derrick Powers represented the firm at the 9th Annual Wintergreen event, held by the USGBC’s Southern Branch. They also had the opportunity to showcase Page’s work on The Village at Alpine Valley at the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs, which is designed to meet LEED Gold standards.
The event promoted green building in Southern Colorado, and highlighted the efforts of the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs (UCCS) in particular for advancing sustainability on the campus. Linda Kogan, UCCS Sustainability Director, gave a presentation that referenced eleven green projects on the campus, including The Village at Alpine Valley.
Attendees included UCCS administration and staff, design professionals, sustainability consultants, commissioning agents, representatives from the construction industry and students. Mackenzie and Derrick were on hand to answer questions regarding the green design and construction features of The Village at Alpine Valley.
The Village at Alpine Valley is currently under construction and Phase 1 is scheduled to open for the semester of Fall 2015. Phase 2 is scheduled for the following year in Fall 2016 at which time this residential complex will house up to 515 students in three residential buildings (La Plata, Cucharas and San Juan). The 400-seat Roaring Fork dining hall/marketplace also will serve as a multi-purpose event venue/rental facility.
A fourth residence hall is already slated to follow with a place reserved on site. Page is providing master planning, programming and architecture for the design-build project, which is being built by Kiewit.
This is the second USGBC LEED Gold project on the UCCS campus that Page employees have had the privilege of working on. The first was the Gallogly Event Center, which was completed in 2006.
