Siting of the Smithsonian NMAAHC

This past weekend, the Smithsonian celebrated the grand opening of its newest museum, the National Museum of African American History and Culture. There was a great deal of media coverage and fanfare over the dedication of this project. Retired Page Associate Principal William (Bill) Brown, PE, Hon AIA, FSAME, played a very significant role in the location of the museum and Page would like to congratulate him for this historically significant accomplishment.

As principal-in-charge of the evaluation study to select a site in Washington, D.C. for the museum, Bill effectively wielded his varied skills – analytical, technical, artistic and political – as well as his knowledge of programming, design and planning. Today, that high-profile project is located on the famed National Mall.
 
Recalling his efforts on the project, Bill says, “The ability to influence where a major museum would be sited in the nation’s capital and to present the evaluation to nationally prominent citizens and the nation through a televised program was very rewarding.”
