Plainview Grad Is Designing the Future

Page Senior Associate and Project Manager Ginny Chilton was recently featured on My Plainview, an online news resource for her hometown of Plainview, TX. It described the childhood experiences that led her to choose a career in architecture.

Ginny was exposed to the worlds of construction and art at an early age thanks to her parents and teachers. She worked at her father’s company, Chilton Heating and Air, where she learned to read blueprints and plans and to build and install duct work. In addition, her parents took her to multiple art museums and created a lot of art projects for her?. "I also had some very fantastic art teachers," Ginny said.

Various teachers continued to unknowingly prepare her for her future career as an architect. Ginny’s seventh grade industrial technology teacher gave her a book on modern architecture. She also mentioned how her algebra teacher, who mentored her in math, laid the ground work for the skills she uses at work.

Her favorite part of her career in architecture is building friendships with her clients and helping them realize the vision for their company. "Obviously, there is a sense of pride," she said. "But, I think even more importantly, it's watching the client go through the process of design. They're envisioning things - dreams about their new business, their office or new university.”

Ginny has helped design several significant projects including the new Dell Medical School for the University of Texas, Texas A&M Health Science Center in Round Rock and both the College of Visual & Performing Arts and College of Nursing at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. “I have a good time doing what I do,” Chilton said. “We’re working on some real fun projects right now.” One of her most recent projects was designing a new city hall and library for Buda, TX.

The article also explained why Ginny was chosen to be profiled. She had commented on a post about repurposing abandoned grain silos in Plainview into functional spaces, and it caught the attention of the editor of My Plainview.
