Pager's Appointment Provides Opportunities

Some people find their careers bring them personal as well as professional satisfaction when they have an opportunity to leverage their expertise to make their community a better place. Page Design Architect Jonathan Schwartz is experiencing that for himself right now with his recent appointment to an Austin, Texas City Council Advisory Committee focused on a rapidly growing part of the city where he lives and has designed multiple projects.

Jonathan has been formally sworn in as a Commissioner to the Robert Mueller Municipal Airport Plan Implementation Advisory Commission (Mueller Commission). His responsibilities include advising the Austin City Council on implementation of the Mueller Master Plan and other redevelopment issues at the site of the former Robert Mueller Municipal Airport, including review of future developments, land disposition strategy, traffic, urban design and zoning issues, demolition of existing facilities and more.

His experience with Page projects in the district, including the Mueller Multifamily Residences, the new Mueller Cinema on Aldrich Street and the upcoming AMLI Mueller Phase II, were an important part of this appointment. The projects provided Jonathan with the opportunity to work with the Mueller Master Plan, the Mueller Design Guidelines, the Mueller New Construction Council and gave him a general understanding of development processes in the area.

Just as important, he resides in a neighborhood directly adjacent to Mueller, where he is also a member of his neighborhood association steering committee.  The bylaws of the Mueller Commission state that Commissioners must be residents of Mueller or the surrounding neighborhoods. As both an area resident and designer with projects in Mueller, Jonathan has a strong personal interest in seeing development in the district succeed.

Ten of the eleven members of the commission are appointed by city council members and the remaining position is appointed by the mayor of Austin. The commission appointments are tied to the terms of the nominating city council members. Jonathan was appointed by newly elected Council Member Jimmy Flannigan, so both will serve at minimum four-year terms in their respective positions.

This is an opportunity for Jonathan to embody the Page promise of making lives better. Congratulations, Jonathan!
