Page to Present at InfraGard on EMP
Page is scheduled to present an EMP case study at the upcoming closed-session InfraGard meeting in Houston this September. InfraGard is a partnership between the FBI and the private sector, whose members represent businesses, academic institutions, state and local law enforcement agencies, and other participants dedicated to sharing information and intelligence to prevent hostile acts against the U.S. This meeting is an opportunity to hear from experts in the field of HEMP and IEMI, and learn from project team members who have successfully completed a large scale shielded commercial facility. An abstract for the meeting is included below.
Project Case Study: Protecting a Critical Facility from HEMP & IEMI
September 17, 2014, 12:30-3:30 PM
Until quite recently, protection from the effects of High-altitude Electromagnetic Pulse (HEMP), Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) and Intentional Electromagnetic Interference (IEMI) has been regarded as a requirement primarily for military and government facilities built for Command, Control, Communications, Computer and Intelligence (C4I). In 2014, a multi-disciplinary team completed construction of the first large, private sector critical facility in the United States that includes HEMP/IEMI protection.
This two-part session will examine HEMP and IEMI; explain how they threaten private sector critical infrastructure like data centers, process control and manufacturing facilities; and suggest practical and cost-effective solutions for achieving comprehensive protection from such threats. Additional information will present an overview of the project team's experiences during engineering and construction of a first-of-its-kind HEMP-protected critical facility, how the team dealt with design problems, confidentiality, permitting and regulatory approvals, and construction issues unique to this type of hardened structure.
This meeting is open to InfraGard members and invited guests. If you or an associate of your firm is interested in attending, please contact Page Principal Jeffrey S. Willis. Meeting specifics will be provided at that time.
