Page Principal Appointed to Board of Directors

Page Principal Eric Kuehmeier, AIA, LEED AP, and long-time advocate of introducing students to the design, construction and engineering industries has been elected to the Board of Directors for ACE Mentoring of Dallas/Fort Worth (ACE-DFW). In this role, he will support the organization’s mission to introduce area high school juniors and seniors to the many rewarding career opportunities offered by the Architectural, Construction and Engineering professions.

Through programs that integrate hands-on activities, tours, field trips and weekly interaction with mentors from area industry firms, ACE-DFW exposes students to a wide variety of skills and specialties found in the building industry. Since its inauguration in 2004, the organization has grown from serving 21 students at one school to more than 100 students in 15-plus area schools.

Eric originally became involved in industry mentoring nearly two decades ago when he worked with another organization that had similar goals but separated out builders from contractors. Both entities blend design and construction together into a cohesive approach, though.

He explains, “It’s a great cause that strengthen our profession and shapes the next generation of architects, contractors and engineers that make our industry work.” The program deepens students’ understanding of the career paths open to them while giving them experience in applying the tools and techniques used by experts in the field.

At the beginning of each year, ACE-DFW surveys participating students to identify their areas of interest and assign them to related, small groups that include mentors from those fields. This model increases students’ one-on-one time with mentors and strengthens their abilities to work as teams, a great benefit when entering the job market whether as an intern or a professional.

Additionally, the organization also funds a scholarship program for students who choose a post-high school course of study that leads to a career in the building industry. To date, this program has awarded scholarships worth more than $100,000. Students also are encouraged to apply for the ACE National Scholarships, which are separate from the local awards.
