Page Expands Planning, Urban Design Capabilities

New Office, New Leaders

A year ago, Page announced a new name to go with our new organizational structure and new way of working, all intended to continue our history of 115-plus years of success. A year later, we’re very excited to announce that one of the nation’s leading master planners is joining us, along with BMS Design Group, an urban planning, urban design and landscape architecture firm in San Francisco.

The two firms share a commitment to a collaborative, team-driven/ multi-disciplinary approach to problem analysis and synthesis of complex project challenges, and to fulfilling our promise of design that makes lives better. Clients of both firms will continue to enjoy the attention and hands-on involvement of their design teams as well as the opportunity to have additional needs met as a result of this transition.

Additionally, our new Page office in San Francisco positions us to offer architectural, engineering, interior design and strategic consulting to West Coast clients. Having locations in every time zone in the continental United States also will allow us to expand our ability to select the best-suited talent across each of our offices to meet specific client needs.

Our new Page leadership team in San Francisco consists of Dan Kenney, a master planner, urban designer and architect, Barbara Maloney, an urban designer and planner, and Michael Smiley, an urban designer. Dan, a former principal at Sasaki Associates, has previously collaborated with Page on two projects for the University of Texas at Austin: the Campus Master Plan and the Medical District Plan.

Dan, Barbara, Michael and their design teams will oversee the advancement of our planning service capabilities in campuses, medical districts, transit-related projects, waterfronts and streetscapes across all our offices. Collectively, they have extensive experience in large-scale, complex planning and design projects across North America, Europe and Asia.

Dan Kenney, AIA, AICP, brings four decades of project experience to Page. He previously served as head of the campus planning studio for Sasaki Associates, Inc. where his extensive background collaborating with colleges and universities gives him unique insights regarding the broad challenges and opportunities each institution faces. Earlier this year, his leadership of the University of Texas at Austin Campus Master Plan on which Page also collaborated won a honor award from the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP).

Barbara Maloney’s career as an urban designer and planner has been particularly focused on improving communities to support healthy and diverse lifestyles.  Her work addresses the relationship between land use and transportation, transit facilities, pedestrian and bicycle connectivity; environmental resource conservation, smart growth and sustainable design; and community character and identity.

Michael Smiley, AICP, ASLA, an urban designer and landscape architect, has extensive experience in urban and suburban revitalization, master planning for urban waterfronts, transit station-area planning, and brownfield site re-use planning as well as site specific design for public transit facilities, urban streetscapes, public parks and open spaces and housing.  He is also known for his campus planning expertise which often includes efforts to improve the “town-gown” relationship by integrating universities and research centers into their host communities. Michael’s career spans multiple continents and includes a project that is known the world over – the 2.5-mile Embarcadero waterfront revitalization in San Francisco.

Our new colleagues also have made a significant impact on the West Coast where they live, work and play through their urban design, urban planning and campus planning projects. They have worked on numerous campuses for the University of California system and California State University system, the Downtown South Francisco Station Area Specific Plan, the Folsom Historic District Streetscape Improvement Plan, the Lawrence Caltrain Station Area Plan and much more.
