Page Architectural Tour of Downtown Houston

If you were in downtown Houston yesterday afternoon, you may have seen - or heard! - a Page Red double decker bus roll by with banners on either side. Page Senior Principals Art Chavez and John Cryer led a tour of Page architectural and engineering projects through Houston to demonstrate the impact the firm has had on the area throughout the decades. In the interest of time (and rush-hour traffic), the tour was restricted to the downtown area - and we still had to skip projects! To keep Page colleagues, clients and friends who were out of earshot of the bus broadcast system informed, we tweeted each of the stops. Take a look at the image gallery above.

Page was instrumental in launching interest in the restoration of downtown Houston in the 1990s. John Cryer relocated the local office downtown years before other large design firms did. He also moved his family to one of the first renovated residential lofts downtown before amenities such as grocery stores were available. Art Chavez led the adaptive renovation of the historic Rice Hotel into the Rice Lofts, which kickstarted the commercial revitalization of the district. As you'll see from the tweets above, the firm has renovated and repurposed numerous iconic and significant buildings as well as designed new facilities and urban spaces that enhance the city's stature. 

It was a great summer afternoon to be on the top deck of a bus and the tour renewed our pride in Page's history. It also provided great visual reinforcement of the firm's vision to design projects that make lives better.
