OU’s New School of Biomedical Engineering Announced

The University of Oklahoma planned School of Biomedical Engineering made front page news on the OU Daily for its announcement of a new college at OU as well as the selection of the architecture firm, Page. The building is on track to break ground in fall 2016, and it will be located on the current site of Craddock Hall, home of the OU Air Force ROTC on the OU Norman Campus.

The School of Biomedical Engineering will integrate engineering and medicine and further develop biomedical imaging, nanomedicine and neuroengineering as a part of OU’s College of Engineering.

Prior to selecting an architect, Thomas Landers, dean of the newly named Gallogly College of Engineering, and his team toured biomedical engineering schools at several universities, including Rice, Georgia Tech, Ohio State and the University of California-Davis. Page also was the architect of record on the new Bioengineering and Sciences Building at the University of Texas at Dallas, which Landers mentioned.

This will be the second facility that Page has designed that bears the name of the Gallogly family. James “Jim” Gallogly is CEO of Lyondell Basell and also made the primary donation to the Gallogly Events Center, a LEED Gold-certified facility, at the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs.

Members of the Page team were on hand for the announcement at the University of Oklahoma. Construction will begin late in 2016, and it is expected to be completed in 2018.
