My Work Is Vital To Communities

The son of a Fire Marshal and the brother of a fire fighter, Jon Sajdak is an East Coast native who recently moved to Texas. He is Graduate Fire Protection Engineer at Page and a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Engineering. He talked to us about joining our MEP team after interning with us during the summer of 2015.

Why did you choose to work at Page?

I came to Page as an intern in 2015 and really enjoyed the office at that time, so I was happy to come back in 2016 as a full-time employee. I like the firm culture and the team. We work on unique projects across a variety of market sectors. I also like that we have an integrated team and collaboration with the architects is as simple as walking over to their desks.

What is it like to work on the Page MEP team?

Our team thinks outside of the box and is generally energetic. There is also close collaboration among all of the engineering disciplines. People are open and willing to help colleagues talk through design issues to solve problems.

What do you recommend recent graduates look for when considering a firm?

Look for something that fits your interests and offers opportunities for growth. For me, it was important that I would be able to contribute immediately to a variety of projects.

What do you most enjoy about working in the engineering profession/industry?

Fire protection is in my blood. For me it is significant that my work is vital to protecting our communities. I have a huge sense of pride in the fact that I can work to deliver the best design and product to a client and end users. The work is life-safety driven and I can deliver that promise.

Briefly describe a recent favorite project.

Fountain Place, a high-rise residential tower in Dallas, was fun and challenging. I collaborated closely with the designers to ensure that fire protection systems not only met codes and standards but were also supporting the aesthetics of the architecture and interior design.
