Integrated Sciences Complex

Page/SST Planners provided lab planning services for The University of Massachusetts Integrated Sciences Complex (ISC), the first new academic building on the Boston campus since 1974. The new complex caught the attention of Tradeline, an institutional facility industry resource, for its research, teaching and training labs resources designed to create a collaborative learning environment.

The 229,450 square foot facility features research lab and support space for biology, chemistry, environmental sciences, physics, and psychology; undergraduate biology teaching labs; an interdisciplinary undergraduate sandbox teaching lab; and a new research center for personalized cancer therapy. It’s a five story complex that offers strategic planning of department locations to create an effective layout for interdisciplinary collaboration.

The ISC was designed to display the outside environment by incorporating full-height windows to allow for extensive natural lighting. High-performance, energy efficient features were integrated into the complex, using approximately 20 percent less energy than the comparable base case. It is expected to achieve at least LEED Silver certification.
