Good Design Is Good Business: Architectural Record

Architectural Record has selected a Page project as one of its 2017 Good Design Is Good Business Award winners. The client, a global prosthetic and mobility device manufacturer, relies on design for the success of its products so it is only natural that its offices also demonstrate outstanding design.

Ottobock decided to relocate its North American headquarters from Minneapolis to Austin to capitalize on the latter’s reputation as a technology and innovation hub. They commissioned Page to design their new space within a raw, 37,000- square-foot existing commercial building.

Their core mission to help people move with greater ease helped define design goals for the new space as well. Page exposed the concrete joists and columns, then added curving walls and sleek planes. Page principal Wendy Dunnam Tita explained, “It’s sculptural, it’s precise, it’s anthropomorphic.”

A showroom with a custom welcome wall serves as a reception area before visitors access the office proper, which includes training and meeting spaces, internal offices, workstations, and collaboration areas. Employees also enjoy lounges, a wellness room and a shower with changing rooms.
