Dallas Community Boathouse at White Rock Lake: Renderings of future ‘floating’ dock

Dallas-area residents are getting a sneak peek of the unbuilt Dallas Community Boathouse at White Rock Lake, thanks to the Lakewood Advocate's coverage of the AIA Dallas display of its 2015 Unbuilt Design Awards gallery show. The Advocate chose the Page design for the Boathouse and Rowing Center as a featured project, highlighting several renderings.

Page, which has had a presence in Dallas for nearly half a century, took design inspiration from the sport of rowing. The dynamic form of the roof recalls the movements created by the boats hitting the water, the athletes' oars and lapping of the water. It is expected to become an icon for White Rock Lake and the City of Dallas.

The Dallas Community Boathouse at White Rock Lake is intended to become a permanent home for Dallas United Crew, yet will also serve the greater Dallas community by supporting those involved in rowing, dragon boating and other paddle sports as well. It is a public-private partnership between the Dallas United Crew rowing program and the City of Dallas, and is currently in fundraising mode.

White Rock Lake is the largest urban reservoir in the United States, located approximately five miles northeast of downtown Dallas. Originally established in 1911 to serve as a water supply for the City, White Rock Lake has become an “urban oasis” inside the more than 2,100 acres of White Rock Lake Park.

White Rock Lake is surrounded by residential neighborhoods on all sides; serves as home to the Dallas Arboretum; and is enjoyed by more than two million visitors per year, including families, runners, walkers, cyclists, fishermen, sailors, rowers and other outdoor enthusiasts.
