City of Buda Municipal Complex Celebrates Opening of Public Safety Building

This week, the new 14,420 square-foot City of Buda Public Safety building opened its doors for a small dedication. Key members of the community gathered to celebrate this significant milestone in the realization of the new City of Buda Municipal Complex, which also includes the City Hall and Library building to be complete in the spring of 2018.

As part of his introductory remarks, Police Chief Bo Kidd noted, “Page architects designed a pretty handsome building.” Indeed, their new space represents a marked improvement in facilities with its prominent yet secure site that invites the public into its reception area and community meeting room. The police department is celebrating seven years of operation and has the second lowest crime rate in the central Texas region. Buda has a population of approximately 16,000 and is located between Austin and San Antonio on the I-35 corridor.

The new City of Buda Municipal Complex is located on Main Street east of downtown. Situated adjacent to the historic 51-acre Stagecoach Park, the nine-acre site has a heritage of longhorn ranching, giant oak trees and wildflowers. The buildings are sited to preserve several heritage oak trees and provide a natural landscape. The designs convey a sense of transparency, encouraging residents to observe, participate and engage in the processes that shape their evolving city.

The soon-to-be complete City Hall and Library building is 54,683 square feet and will house administrative offices, City Council Chambers and the Economic Development Corporation. It will be a central hub for Buda civic life and lay the foundation for continued community growth. Within the building, a consolidated customer service area will reduce redundancy, streamline civic processes, and provide flexibility for future growth.
