5 Trends to Track in The Multifamily Game
Do you know what's big in the multifamily (apartments and condos) housing sector these days? Two Page experts Peter Hoffmann and Wendy Dunnam Tita told Building Design + Construction Magazine what's hot. Developers, owners and brokers, take note.
1. Urban lifestyle
2. Affordable luxury
3. Amenities, amenities, amenities
4, Tenant control of technology
5. Green leases
Wendy Dunnam Tita, a principal at Page, notes that developers are trending toward walkable, transit-oriented housing projects (trend #1: urban lifestyle). "Public transportation is changing the way people are buying land for projects... More of our clients are emphasizing a sense of community that will make their projects more desirable."
Affordable luxury (trend #2) is not an oxymoron, thanks to sustainable design that can control operating costs such as variable refrigerant flow HVAC systems, central solar hot water systems, LED lighting, rainwater collection and turbines powered by wind and natural gas. Peter Hoffman, Page Senior Designer, explains another way to achieve affordable luxury is to create multifunctional spaces within apartments, reducing the need for a larger floor plan.
