2017 Recap: A Very Good Year

Throughout 2017, Page achieved a new level of integration across our teams and sectors to produce immersive places designed to make lives better.

Design Excellence

Our project milestones reflect the diversity of our work throughout the year.

Our academic sector’s work encompassed two ambitious projects redefining health research and education: The Center for BrainHealth’s Brain Performance Institute at The University of Texas at Dallas opened its doors this summer and Dell Medical School Health District at The University of Texas at Austin celebrated certification by the Sustainable SITES Initiative and three of the district's buildings, two of which wrapped up last year, achieved LEED Gold certification.

Our civic/government sector’s work ranged from transforming parks in Virginia to the opening of Quarry Run Regional Operations Center, a unique first responder facility. Phase One of the Texas Capitol Complex Master Plan also kicked off this fall.

Our corporate commercial team continued to focus on repositioning trends in cities like Houston, while also completing the interiors for high-rise office buildings abroad and transforming mid-rise spec office spaces with dramatic sculptural planes.

The Page healthcare team completed a significant community hospital Houston Methodist - The Woodlands.

In our housing and hospitality sector, three luxury multifamily residences reached significant milestones. The 45-story emerald green glass Fountain Place Residences broke ground; 70 Rainey celebrated its first residential level concrete pour and The Signet in McLean, Virginia welcomed residents. The completion of our one-million-square-foot, award-winning RagingWire Data Center in North Texas was a significant accomplishment for our science and technology sector.

Our branding and graphics studio produced the100^th issue of Cite Magazine.

Growth Milestones

The firm expanded our team in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Region with a new office in Dubai, strengthening our architecture, engineering and consulting services in the region with more experts on the ground. Amro Alansari is leading the new office. Page also made a strategic decision to expand our Denver office with new leadership and broader technical capabilities.

Awards and Recognition

In 2017, our projects were honored with more than 25 design awards. Highlights included the Urban Land Institute’s recognition of Buffalo Bayou Park with its Global Award for Excellence, a national Honor Award for the Texas Capitol Complex Master Plan from the American Society of Landscape Architects and the Texas Society of Architect’s (TxA) recognition of The Cistern with a Design Award.

The Society of American Registered Architects honored the The University of Texas at Austin Medical District Master Plan and Buffalo Bayou Park with Design Awards of Honor. Our Ottobock US Headquarters received a Good Design is Good Business Award from Architectural Record Magazine as well as a Design Excellence Award from the International Interior Design Association Texas and Oklahoma Chapter. Multihousing News honored 70 Rainey and Fountain Place with Best New Development Gold and Silver Awards in the unbuilt category.

Recognition throughout the year was also documented in the 2017 professional rankings—which identified Page’s inclusion in the ARCHITECT 50, Interior Design Giants and Architectural Record Magazine’s Top U.S. Firms. Page was among the top 15 firms in Building Design + Construction Magazine’s Top Architecture/Engineering Firms. Page was among the top 20 firms in Engineering News Record Texas & Louisiana’s Top Design Firms and Interior Design Magazine Healthcare Giants; Page was among the top 30 firms in the MEP GIANTS published by Consulting-Specifying Engineer Magazine. Our offices were also recognized locally with high rankings, notably with Page toping the Austin Business Journal’s List of Architecture Firms.  

Sharing Our Expertise

Throughout 2017, the firm sought to reach out to our communities. Two significant efforts focused on fostering leadership and innovation. In February, the Women in Architecture "Shape the Conversation" exhibition featured a month-long program of events dedicated to diversity and inclusivity in the profession. Anchored by three exhibitions highlighting the work of women architects across the nation and the greater Austin metropolitan area, the exhibition and associated event series strengthened dialogues within the profession and awareness of the role of women in architecture in the larger community. The event was spearheaded by Pagers in association with AIA Austin.

Additionally, Page’s second annual Conversations in the Garden at the Umlauf Sculpture Garden brought together allied design professionals in a discussion about promoting innovation and creative solutions to complex problems.

We shared our expertise from the podium at several significant industry conferences, ranging from Architectural Record Magazine’s Record on the Road Series to the AIA National Big Sibs Chapter Conference to the Association of American Medical Colleges Annual Meeting. Our globetrotting employees were no less busy and made significant contributions to professional conferences and events, notably for those organized by AIA International Region.

Pagers were active in their local AIA conferences as well as the Texas Society of Architects (TxA) annual convention, where we made eight presentations, including moderating the keynote panel discussion on resiliency, and led tours of three of our projects. 

Page is proud to play a strong leadership role in the development of the communities we serve, and in 2017 we challenged ourselves to raise the bar in terms of our design mission, leadership in the profession, impact on our local communities and contribution to expertise in our field.
